Mel’s fan history
I apologize for my links not being live in many cases. I have had to change URLs to keep fan history sites from picking up links they weren’t intended to index. I can block spiders, but I can’t keep out human stalkers. It seems we cannot have private communications on our own blogs anymore. “Fanlore” — such as it is — is sometimes an open canvas for stalkers and trolls. When I tried to head them off at the pass (Halloween is coming, which is troll time), I was banned from FL for “creating a climate of fear” — because I defended myself and offered help to others being stalked by their members. The FL bio on me is fine so far as zines and the like. It is inaccurate and biased against me in all other ways, having been partially compiled and run by people with an axe to grind. I’ve never even met any of these people … that I know of.
Since they infer all the time that I suck (why they have a hardon for me, I don’t know lol), maybe I’ll be lucky and they’ll just pull the bio of my lowly, terrible self.
My position is this …
Imagine you were a member of a knitting circle and someone opened up a history page about you to report details of your life — stuff you’d left behind you and would rather not be known. Would you like it? No, you wouldn’t. That’s what Fanlore is. Once upon a time, I had a hobby called fan fiction writing. This hobby, someone decided, meant I had no right to personal privacy. Fanlore started out as a fan history site — a noble purpose, I suppose. Unfortunately, Fanlore has sometimes taken the side of stalkers against fan writers and artists. From this I can only conclude that one or more of my stalkers is involved with Fanlore.
I have tried to remain semi-active in fandom, thus moving my files and links so that fan history site-type intrusions couldn’t find them. I wanted to allow my readers to access the files, but I didn’t want Fanlore to list them. They have failed to respect my wishes about this.
